Tom Brady makes his feelings about Bill Belichick quite apparent.
Following the 2023 NFL season, the New England Patriots and renowned head coach Bill Belichick split ways, and it appeared likely that Belichick would take one of the head coaching positions that became available in the offseason.
As the hiring cycle progressed, Belichick found himself on the outside looking in.
Many were startled that Belichick, who at least once interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons, was passed over for a job by all the teams; it’s unclear if this indicates that his coaching career is ended or if he’s simply taking a year off.
Tom Brady, Belichick’s former quarterback for the Patriots, was one of the people taken aback.
I don’t know the criteria for hiring coaches. I have never participated in it; in fact, I find it surprising that the best coach in history is unemployed. However, a lot of things in the NFL surprise me, Brady stated this week on his podcast.
Brady expressed empathy for Belichick’s situation by talking about his brief stint as a free agent prior to joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. “A lot of teams didn’t want me when I was a free agent,” he remarked.
Brady played quarterback for all six of Belichick’s New England Super Bowl victories, and during the course of Brady’s 20 seasons in New England, the two won 219 games together. In regards to his future with the New England Patriots, Brian Belichick has made a choice.
According to a report on Wednesday by ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Belichick will stay with New England. The precise role that Belichick will play for the Patriots has not yet been disclosed. But Reiss had predicted a few days before that Belichick would be the head coach of the safeties. Since 2020, Belichick has been the safeties coach for the Patriots.
Of Bill’s two kids, Brian is the youngest. with their father’s staff with the Patriots, Brian and his older brother Steve were given the chance to stay with the team. Steve departed the company to join Jedd Fisch’s Washington Huskies staff as the defensive coordinator.
For the past four years, Brian has collaborated closely with new head coach Jerod Mayo, and this relationship is probably going to last.
After joining the Patriots in 2016 as a scouting assistant, Brian served as a coaching assistant for three years until taking over as the team’s safeties coach in 2020.
