Fred Warner, a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, has apologised to the Philadelphia Eagles security guard following a confrontation on the sidelines that resulted in their removal.

During San Francisco’s 42-19 victory over Philadelphia, Fred and Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro were expelled after Greenlaw was cited for needless roughness on a tackle of DeVonta Smith close to the Eagles perimeter.

The hit infuriated the Eagles, and DiSandro intervened between Smith and Fred during their altercation, pushing Fred aside. DiSandro was then expelled after Fred shoved his palm in his face.

Fred stated on Wednesday that he and DiSandro had no ill will and that they apologised through middlemen following the game.

“He seemed like a genuine guy, seemed like a guy that everybody loved in the building,” Fred stated. “To be honest, I detest that things got to that point and escalated. I have never seen or participated in anything like it in the game.”

On Wednesday, the NFL reiterated to teams in a memo that non-player employees are not allowed to make physical contact, taunt, or hurl comments towards referees or other players. Only coaches or game officials should attempt to break up any altercations, according to the memo. According to the league, infractions could result in penalties or suspensions.
