NBA commissioner Adam Silver discussed why the organization has permitted Josh Giddey, a talented player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, to play on despite allegations that he had an inappropriate contact with a kid.

On ESPN’s “NBA Today” on Friday, Silver stated, “I can’t think of many circumstances where we’ve suspended a player based on an allegation alone.”

The 21-year-old Australian Giddey was linked to an alleged underage female in viral images that were shared on social media by an unknown user last month, prompting the league to launch an inquiry into the player. Shortly after, the Newport Beach (Calif.) Police Department launched an inquiry into the claims.

Social media posts from late November purportedly showed a man who looked like Giddey with a woman in pictures and videos, but it’s not clear where or when they were taken. The pictures were taken down by the anonymous social media users who first shared them, but not before other others saved them.
