As the EFL decides on the postponed game, reading finds out the penalty for the suspension of Wilf Kirkham and ruckus at Port Vale.
The first match was called off when home supporters stormed the field to voice their disapproval of the club’s leadership. Reading will now have to replay their encounter with Port Vale in its entirety. Additionally, the Royals will be assessed a three-point deduction that is suspended.
On January 13, after barely sixteen minutes at the Madejski Stadium, fans took to the pitch. The points deduction will apply to the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons and will be initiated if the club’s supporters generate enough disturbance to force the postponement or cancellation of a game.
“Noting the opinions expressed at the supporter meeting held with the EFL last week regarding the imposition of further immediate points deductions on the Club,” the EFL states that it “recognizes the ongoing challenges for the Club and its supporter base.” The suspended points deduction will take effect right away if it is activated.
Additionally, Reading has been entrusted with reaching a settlement with Port Vale about payment for the costs the latter experienced as a result of the abandoned match. But Reading has also acknowledged that there is an FA investigation underway, which might lead to a large fine.
Apart from the penalty imposed on Reading, the EFL also said that they had approved club owner Dai Yongge. He has consistently neglected to pay into a specified bank account a sum equivalent to 125% of the Club’s anticipated monthly wage bill.
Yongee has been in default for nearly four months after missing his January deadline. He has also disregarded orders from the independent Disciplinary Commission in August and December. Additionally, he is accused of tarnishing the reputation of the team and/or league as a result. A commission for independent discipline will hear the two charges.
The game will be repeated for the Berkshire team on Tuesday, February 20 at 8:00 p.m. For those who purchased tickets for the first game, they will offer three choices. Fans who purchase tickets can keep them, and they will still be good for the rescheduled game.
If not, individuals who were present can exchange their ticket for a different home game this season. Should such accommodations not be suitable, a complete reimbursement will be given. The last two options must be selected before Monday, February 19 at 5:00 p.m.
