Even though the Boston Celtics’ 2024 NBA trade deadline was not particularly exciting, some observers nevertheless declare them the champions. Three different deals made up the entirety of the Celtics’ move set.
In order to acquire backup big man Xavier Tillman, Sr., they first dealt reserve forward Lamar Stevens and two first-round draft picks to the Memphis Grizzlies. After that, they sent reserve wing Jaden Springer to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for another selection. Finally, in order to maintain a roster slot available for buyout candidates, Boston moved backup forward Dalano Banton to the Portland Trail Blazers.
While the Celtics made some spectacular additions throughout the summer and aggressively deployed resources to hone their depth, this is by no means a sequence of blockbuster moves in and of itself.
