Wake Forest Recesses Thomas Cole, TE, and starting quarterback Kendall Hinton for Three Games.

The starting quarterback for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be among the players absent when the team kicks off the 2023 college football season.

Dave Clawson, the head coach of Wake Forest, announced on Thursday that tight end Thomas Cole and quarterback Kendall Hinton will be serving three-game suspensions for breaking team rules.

Clawson released the following statement through Conor O’Neill of the Winston-Salem Journal, although he did not identify the specific infraction: “Kendall and Thomas made poor decisions and they take responsibility for their actions.” Those choices have repercussions, and we hope they will all take this as a lesson to further develop and evolve.”

Despite playing in 17 games over the previous three seasons, Hinton, a redshirt junior, has only made four career starts. The 6’0″, 195-pound signal caller finished the previous season with 399 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions on 57.4% of his passes. The native of North Carolina also scored on the rush and gained 190 yards.

Cole is starting his second season as a redshirt. According to 247Sports, the 6’5″, 250-pound tight end was a 2-star prospect right out of West Virginia high school.

Hinton was supposed to take over for John Wolford, a four-year starter. Hinton will miss three games due to injury. The Deacons’ starting quarterbacks for the season will likely be redshirt sophomore Jamie Newman (2-of-4, eight yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception in his career) and freshman Sam Hartman, a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports.

Wake plays two home games against Towson and Boston College after opening the season with a matchup against Tulane.
