NFL suspends 3 players indefinitely for violating the gambling policy and a fourth gets 6 games.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — On Thursday, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. lost the largest wager of his life.
Shortly after Rodgers and two other players received indefinite suspensions from the NFL for wagering on NFL games during the previous season, he was waived by the Indianapolis Colts.

After defensive tackle Demetrius Taylor, a free agent, and backup end Rashod Berry were both disciplined for the same conduct, the Colts also cut Berry. Until after the upcoming season, none of the three may apply for reinstatement.

Right lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere of the Tennessee Titans was given a six-game suspension for placing bets on non-NFL sports at the team’s stadium; however, he is still eligible to take part in all off-season and preseason practices, including preseason games.

Even with a possible starter like Rodgers, the Colts made a quick and firm decision.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard released a statement saying, “We have made the following roster moves as a consequence of the determination that these players violated the league’s gambling policy.” The game’s integrity must be upheld at all costs. As a team, we’ll keep teaching our coaches, players, and employees about the rules in place and the serious repercussions that can follow infractions

These regulations prohibit wagering on NFL games, placing bets at team hotels or facilities, or having someone else place a bet on their behalf by players, coaches, team officials, and any other league personnel.

After consulting with the NFL Players Association, NFL executive vice president of communications, public affairs, and policy Jeff Miller stated last week that only players are allowed to wager on non-NFL games.

Jameson Williams, the receiver, and Berryhill received six-game suspensions. Taylor was cut in May after spending time with the Lions during the previous campaign.

Shaka Toney, a defensive end for the Washington Commanders, was the other player who was suspended indefinitely. Williams, the No. 12 overall draft pick in 2022, Toney, a seventh-round pick in 2021, and Petit-Frere are still employed.
In addition to reminding the more than 17,000 NFL employees of its gambling policy, the league is also promoting it at yearly presentations held at team facilities.
