Cardinals May Trade Young Outfielder Following Season Rigged by Injuries
This offseason, the St. Louis Cardinals have been quite busy.
St. Louis has added a few intriguing players and cut a few noteworthy ones. After a turbulent time with the team, Tyler O’Neill, an outfielder with the Cardinals, was traded earlier this summer.
O’Neill was the first player to leave town to relieve the outfield logjam that the Cardinals were experiencing. Even while this is the case, there may eventually be another move.
Dylan Carlson of the Cardinals was named in Mark Feinsand’s “All-Trade Rumor Team” list, which was created by MLB.com.
“The Cardinals have already traded Tyler O’Neill this offseason, but Carlson remains part of a crowded outfield that includes Jordan Walker, Brendan Donovan, Tommy Edman and Lars Nootbaar,” Feinsand stated. Earlier this winter, a number of teams expressed interest in St. Louis; nevertheless, O’Neill was sold by the Cards. After having a strong rookie season in 2021 (18 home runs and a.780 OPS in 149 games), Carlson has struggled in 2022–2023 (hitting 13 home runs and a.680 OPS in 204 games).
Buzz factor: Low. Carlson’s 2024 salary is projected to be $2.35 million, and he has two more years to reach arbitration eligibility before turning free agent. While there isn’t a pressing need to trade Carlson right now, the Cardinals may decide to utilize him as a trade chip to address other needs if a team approaches them about outfield assistance.”
Carlson is still with the Cardinals despite being referenced multiple times in trade speculations. At this time, he’s probably the team’s fourth outfield player. St. Louis still has an abundance of talented outfield players, so a trade wouldn’t be all that shocking at some point. Should he be able to recover, he might be considered for a trade before the deadline.
