After defeating Mansfield Town on Tuesday night, Port Vale advanced to the Carabao Cup Quarterfinals for the first time in their 147-year history.

In-loan Five minutes into the second half, Alfie Devine, a striker for Tottenham Hotspur, scored a brilliant solo goal to guarantee the League One team a spot in the tournament’s final eight.

The 20-match unbeaten streak for Mansfield, which began at the end of the previous season, was also snapped by Vale’s victory.

Despite being a division above the Stags, Andy Crosby, the manager of Vale, claimed his team arrived in Mansfield as “underdogs” after losing five of their previous six League One games and earning just two points from their previous eight. However, his team made history and made Crosby proud along the way.

“It’s a fantastic accomplishment for the entire Club,” he said following the match on BBC Radio Five Live.

It was a wonderful reward for a group of players who are learning as we go along, coming from the owners who have put so much time and effort into the Club to try and drag it from where it was.

“We entered with little confidence, but they exuded confidence, and we realised it would be a tremendous task. For one of us to make it to the last eight and make history was a great reward for both teams. Let’s see what the draw brings us now; it will be an exciting game.

In their lone prior Round Four competition encounter, Port Vale was defeated by Spurs in extra time back in 2006. They are now getting ready to play in their first-ever quarterfinal.

The Quarterfinal draw will take place live on Sky Sports following Manchester United vs. Newcastle United, one of six Round Four ties that will take place on Wednesday night.
