DaQuan Jeffries Signs 10-Day Contract With Knicks.
The New York Knicks intend to sign shooting guard DaQuan Jeffries to a 10-day contract, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHyp.
Jeffries, 26, played in just 10 games during his initial stint with the Knicks this season. When the Knicks traded for OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in December, he was let go.
Since joining the NBA in 2019, Jeffries has also played for the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and Memphis Grizzlies. With 57 games played, he has a career average of 3.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.6 assists. He shoots 28.6% from three-point range and 43.7% from the field.
If Jeffries signs on Thursday, his deal expires the following weekend.
As of this Thursday, the Knicks (33-22) are ranked fourth in the Eastern Conference and second in the Atlantic Division.
During the 2019 offseason, the NBA’s landscape underwent a permanent transformation. Following a horrific Achilles injury that prevented the Golden State Warriors from winning the NBA three times in a row, Kevin Durant was about to enter free agency.
Although he would miss the 2019–20 season due to injury, his choice would have a long-lasting effect on the league. He decided to take a chance and left the Warriors in free agency after three seasons.
For months, there were rumors that Durant might sign with the New York Knicks. For the first time in a long time, New York had the financial means to sign a max player like Durant and give him the freedom to choose a running partner.
However, it didn’t materialize. Durant chose to sign with the Brooklyn Nets, the Knicks’ crosstown rivals, therefore the team blew it with him. He was joined by Kyrie Irving and, eventually, James Harden to form the newest Big 3.
It was a further setback for Knicks supporters, who are frequently listed as a possible destination for superstars who never close deals. But the NBA would have looked completely different if Durant had given in to some peer pressure.
In a recent episode of Boardroom Cover Story, Durant acknowledged that a significant number of individuals supporting him were advocating for his trade to the Knicks. His father, aunt, and agent, Rich Kleiman, all desired for him to wear orange and blue.
