Todd Bowles, the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, attended this week’s NFL Scouting Combine. He and his staff will probably have a busy offseason ahead of them.
With several important players scheduled to become available through free agency, the Bucs must make several important decisions regarding contracts and free agency. Star linebacker Shaquil Barrett was let go by the team to make room for future trades and free up cap space.
Among the important Bucs players nearing free agency are Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and Antonine Winfield. Bowles has acknowledged that the organisation is determined to get quarterback Mayfield a new contract.
“It’s a top priority, without a doubt,” Bowles stated on Tuesday to the NFL’s Good Morning Football.
We love Baker, even though the league season doesn’t start for a few days. Baker’s year was extraordinary. He was a perfect fit for the group.
“You want to hope to build on it because the relationship between him, all the receivers, and the offence as a whole was excellent. I am aware of the business aspect of it. We like Bake, as I mentioned, and we hope things work out.”
After playing for both the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, Mayfield rebounded in 2023, setting career highs of 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdowns with the Buccaneers.
The 28-year-old, who was selected first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, struggled to remain consistent during his four years with the Cleveland Browns.
