Anthony Richardson, a quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, was the team’s first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite harsh criticism for not getting more playing time in college, Richardson made an impression in his first season before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury early in the year.
Head coach Shane Steichen disclosed during the league meetings on Monday that the signal-caller is now recovering and should be ready to participate in spring practice. After a cursory look last year, Steichen also voiced his confidence about what Richardson may achieve as a QB1.
Steichen predicted that he would be ready for spring practice. “I can’t wait to get him going again, but obviously we have to watch it, keep it within reason, and limit it.

“The small sample size he had over those initial five weeks was impressive. He made certain plays, honestly, that I’ve never seen guys do.

Richardson was easily the most physically gifted QB in the 2023 class, putting on a show at his Florida Pro Day and even hitting the roof with a throw. His arm strength is on another level. And despite minimal reps in college as the Gators starter, Richardson quickly showed in the league that he is a force to be reckoned with, although it was a small sample size.
The 21-year-old went 2-2 in four games, completing 60% of his passes for 577 yards and three touchdowns against one interception. He also ran for 136 yards and four scores for an average of 5.4 yards per carry. Richardson was seen as a dual-threat quarterback coming out of college and he showcased the running ability in a massive way.
Richardson’s shoulder injury sustained in Week 5 sadly kept him from playing in 23′, but the Colts and Steichen are thrilled with what they’ve seen thus far. Richardson started a throwing programme last month, and general manager Chris Ballard stated that Indianapolis will exercise extreme caution when it comes to their franchise quarterback given what happened to Andrew Luck in the past:
