The football program’s amazing performance during the past three seasons has encouraged many to advocate for a new contract that would lock Jim Harbaugh down in Ann Arbor for the foreseeable future.
Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have had an amazing three years together. The Wolverines had three straight victories over Ohio State, three straight Big Ten Championships, and three consecutive appearances in the College Football Playoffs after hitting a low point in 2020 when the team finished at 2-4 and it appeared like Harbaugh might be leaving.
The football program’s amazing performance during the past three seasons has encouraged many to advocate for a new contract that would lock Jim Harbaugh down in Ann Arbor for the foreseeable future. If Harbaugh decides not to pursue NFL opportunities, Michigan appears to be on the verge of doing just that, according to the most recent report from Richard Johnson of Sports Illustrated.
Though Michigan football supporters would gladly see an end to the yearly custom of reporting Harbaugh’s possible departure to the NFL, the coach made it plain during the previous off-season that it is something he considers.
Despite his decision to return to Michigan following his interview for a head coaching position in the NFL, many people are of the opinion that this may be his last season at Ann Arbor due to his connections with the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
Harbaugh started the season with a self-imposed three-game suspension for minor NCAA recruiting violations from 2020. After that, he missed the last three regular season games against Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State because of a Big Ten Conference suspension related to the sign-stealing controversy. Even though Harbaugh missed a total of six games in 2023, there’s still a chance that the NCAA could punish him further for the sign-stealing issue in the future, which is probably something that weighs on his mind.
Regardless of how you slice it, Jim Harbaugh should continue leading the University of Michigan for many years to come, as expressed by the players, fans, and administration of the school.
