CBS Chicago — Running back D’Andre Swift and the Chicago Bears have reached an agreement on a three-year contract, as reported by lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Financially speaking, NFL Media reports that Swift will receive $450million in total, with $16.5 million distributed within the first two years of the agreement. The agreement cannot take effect until Wednesday, when the new league year officially begins.
With this contract, Swift—a native of Philadelphia—and the Eagles come to an end of their one-year reunion. He got the most of the action out of the backfield there, logging a career-high 268 touches, and concluded the campaign with a career-high 1,263 yards from scrimmage on his way to a Pro Bowl berth.
Now that Swift has joined the Bears, the team is going through a seismic offseason, with the quarterback situation taking center stage. They are expected to draft USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which will allow 2023 starter Justin Fields to go. Currently, they have that pick.
Swift will be a better running back than Fields, even though Fields did lead the team in rushing last season. With 611 yards, Khalil Herbert was the group leader, followed by D’Onta Foreman (425 yards).
