National news has been dominated by the Denver Broncos. Regrettably, the team’s shortcomings have received more attention than its advantages.

Tim Patrick had an achilles tear during camp, which ended his season. The charges came after Eyioma Uwazurike’s indefinite gambling suspension, and then word leaked out that rookie wide receiver Riley Moss would require surgery, keeping him out of action for roughly four weeks.

Additionally, there have been a lot of advantages to camp. Jaleel McGlaughlin, an undrafted rookie, has been dominant and the defense is playing excellently.

In particular, the matchup between Patrick Surtain II and Russell Wilson demonstrated the dominance of the Broncos defense. Surtain’s tight grip on receivers and frequent turnovers have made Wilson’s time in camp a living hell.

In the end, this will only improve the two. While the Denver defense aims to show the world once again how great they can be, Wilson is hoping to recover off one of his lowest statistical seasons to date.

It’s not surprising that Wilson is having trouble facing Surtain, one of the finest players in the league. When a quarterback is unlucky enough to toss the ball to the defensive back, it can really shift the course of the game.

“The first day of training camp was tough for No. 10 as he continually locked up with former ‘Bama teammate Patrick Surtain II for a large part of camp.”

Just from that practice alone, there were a handful of moments where Surtain blanketed the receiver for an exceptional play. Leaving the offense and Wilson beyond frustrated.

That trend has continued nearly every single day. Surtain has been a difference-maker on the field and is looking to remind the league that he is one of the very best to do it.

The saying is iron sharpens iron. Here’s hoping that Wilson going up against Surtain leads to improved success on game day. If Wilson can stay on the field and allow the defense to do their magic without being gassed, the sky is the limit for the organization.
