Quarterback Reagan Mayfield of Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been involved in an indefinite suspension for violating the…

Stripped of his captain duties and starting role on Oklahoma’s Senior Day against West Virginia, quarterback Baker Mayfield’s suspension lasted two plays on Saturday.

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley inserted Mayfield into the game on the Sooners’ second series. His fill-in, sophomore QB Kyler Murray, provided OU fans with a nice glimpse of the future — rushing for 66 yards on the opening drive. Then running back Rodney Anderson punched it in for a four-yard touchdown. Murray didn’t attempt a pass on the two-play drive.

Mayfield received the suspension as a result of his unsportsmanlike behavior against Kansas last weekend, which saw him taunting on a profanity-laced rant and grabbing his crotch on the sidelines.

Mayfield, a senior who remains a top Heisman Trophy candidate, was emotional about not starting or captaining his final regular-season home game in Norman, Okla., noting that it was going to “be tough” prior to kickoff.

When Mayfield entered the game at the 7:08 mark of the first quarter, he received a loud ovation before throwing an 8-yard touchdown strike shortly later.

Mayfield finished with 281 yards and three touchdowns in the Sooners’ 59-31 victory.
