In 2024, the New York Yankees could see a significant improvement in their organization thanks to a prospect.

This offseason, Jackson Chourio made headlines when the Milwaukee Brewers signed him to an eight-year, $82 million contract that included incentives and two club options. Chourio is the team’s top prospect. Chourio signed this contract without ever participating in a Major League game. It was the biggest deal ever offered to a player without any MLB experience.

Thus, the question, “Who is next season’s Jackson Chourio?” was posed by MLB Pipeline. Put otherwise, who could intentionally create that kind of opportunity? Well, according to one analyst, Jim Callis, shortstop Roderick Arias of the New York Yankees is a Top 10 prospect. Callis thinks the child is ready for a significant leap:

He can play shortstop and has the ability to bat for average, power, solid to plus, and a cannon arm. In the Florida Complex League, he excelled. Before suffering a short-term injury that won’t harm him permanently, he hit [.267] and had six home runs in 27 games. He’s going to be excellent, in my opinion. Last year, he broke his thumb. He won’t turn 20 till the season is almost over.”

When they signed Arias as a member of their international class in 2022, the Yankees had great expectations for him; in fact, they were so high that they offered Arias a $4 million signing bonus. Although the Dominican Republic native has only played in 58 games thus far, his progress was evident in the previous season’s Florida Complex League.

He had 26 RBI and slashed.267/.423/.505/.928 with six home homers. In addition, he had 17 stolen bases, two doubles, and two triples. He’s slashed in the Yankees’ organization in two seasons.with eight doubles, four triples, nine home runs, and 37 RBI, batting 230/.400/.435/.835 overall. In addition to drawing 55 walks, he has struck out 75 batters and stolen 27 bases.
