What a Signing; The Eastern Suburbs has finally owned the Race by resigning their two veteran star players for…

Prior to the 2024 season, Tommy Ealham and Amar Virdi have agreed to new contracts with Surrey. The 25-year-old off-spinner Virdi joined the team’s academy and made his debut in 2017. In 51 games, he has claimed more than 120 wickets.

This year, Ealham, an off-spinner as well, made his debut in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, playing against Essex and Hampshire. At the under-17 level, the cricket player from Cranleigh CC joined the Surrey Pathway Program. Tommy has showed enough potential to win his first professional contract, and he has made good development over the last few years, according to Alec Stewart, director of cricket at Surrey. In the upcoming years, I hope to see him continue to improve his all-around abilities. “I’m happy that Amar has agreed to a new deal because I think he can contend for a spot in the starting lineup with steady play.”

Meanwhile, Ealham is one of a number of Surrey players currently featuring for sides across the globe.  Ealham is playing grade cricket in Perth for Melville Cricket Club. Batter Ben Geddes is also in Western Australia for Perth Cricket Club. Conor McKerr (Fairfield Liverpool CC), Josh Blake (Hawkesbury CC) and Cam Steel (Eastern Suburbs) are in Sydney playing in the New South Wales Premier Cricket Competition.

Also in Australia, the 2023-24 Big Bash started last week. Tom Curran is with Sean Abbott at the Sydney Sixers. Laurie Evans is with Perth Scorchers, where he scored 76 from 41 balls in the 2022 final in the Scorchers’ win over the Sixers. Jamie Overton is playing for the Adelaide Strikers in his first spell in the competition. Chris Jordan switched to the Hobart Hurricanes from Sydney this year.

Jason Roy of the Paarl Royals, Will Jacks of the Pretoria Capitals, Sam Curran of MI Cape Town, and Reece Topley of the Super Giants of Durban will all be playing for their 2023 teams when the SA20 league kicks off in January. Dan Worrall recently signed for Sunrisers Eastern Cape, hence he is fresh to the league.
