Pittsburgh According to OverTheCap, the Pittsburgh Steelers increased their salary cap room even further by renegotiating cornerback Donte Jackson’s deal.

In exchange for wide receiver Diontae Johnson and a draft swap, the Steelers acquired Jackson from the Carolina Panthers. The organization reworked Jackson’s original contract, which was worth $10.5 million this season, to increase their total salary cap room.

In 2024, the organization increased Jackson’s pay to $6 million with a $4.75 million signing bonus; this increased the team’s salary cap by about $4.5 million.

Pittsburgh had about $10.6 million in cap space before the transfer. They now have $15.1 million going into Week 2 of free agency.

Wide receiver Mike Williams is one of the players the organization is already trying to add to their squad; he visited the team. Along with Van Jefferson, the former first-round choice of the Los Angeles Chargers would bolster their receiving core in the summer.

The Steelers usually use up all of their cap space in free agency before setting aside about $10 million for the following campaign. They have many options to generate additional cap space if necessary, including T.J. Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick, among other restructures that are still available.
