After a 7-6 season that ended with a 41-20 Military Bowl win, Virginia Tech rewarded its entire on-field assistant coaching staff with new contracts.
Some were renewed after their original contracts with Virginia Tech expired following the 2023 season, while others were extended or adjusted with time left on their current deals.
All the new contracts include raises for each coach, as well as retention bonuses to be paid at certain points and buyout language that would require the coach to pay Virginia Tech if they left during the contract.
Bowen’s current salary is $850,000. It will increase to $875,000 on March 25, 2024, a process included in all these contracts.
His prior contract was set to expire on January 1, 2025, so he received a two-year extension. Bowen’s contract also includes a $25,000 retention bonus on March 1, 2025, and a $50,000 retention bonus on March 1, 2026.
If Bowen were to leave Virginia Tech in the first year of his contract, he would owe the school $100,000. If leaves in the second year, his buyout is $50,000, and if he leaves in the third year, his buyout is $50,000. That is a theme of these contracts as well.
Marve’s current salary is $825,000. It will increase to $875,000 on March 25, 2024. His original contract was set to expire on January 1, 2025, so he also received a two-year extension.
Like Bowen, Marve’s contract includes a $25,000 retention bonus on March 1, 2025, and a $50,000 retention bonus on March 1, 2026, and his buyout is $100,000 if he leaves within the first year, $50,000 within the second year, and $25,000 within the third year.
