, a free agent, has reached an agreement with the Chicago White Sox, per a report from Jon Morosi of MLB.com. The contract structure is also provided by “The Athletic’s” Ken Rosenthal.

Deal includes a $4 million salary in 2024, a $6 million mutual option, or a $1.5 million buyout in 2025. $250K in performance bonuses for 45, 50, 55, and 50 games every year.

1/20: Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Chicago White Sox and free agency pitcher John Brebbia have reached an agreement. The duration of the contract and the amount of money involved are unknown as of the time this posting was made.

It’s another move to aid the pitching staff from new White Sox’ general manager Chris Getz. After the White Sox finished fourth in the American League Central a season ago, he’s come in and turned over the roster in various ways.

The team let injured stalwart Liam Hendriks go and then traded away ace reliever Aaron Bummer. They acquired multiple arms from the Atlanta Braves, including Mike Soroka, and then signed Chris Flexen and Erik Fedde.

As for Brebbia, the 33-year-old has appeared in the majors in six separate seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. He’s been mostly a reliever, but did make 21 starts for the Giants over the last two years. He made an MLB-high 76 total appearances in 2022 and appeared in 40 games this past season with a 3.99 ERA.

He is 15–15 with a 3.42 ERA in his lifetime. Though his starting experience gives him flexibility and alternatives, he figures to be a bullpen arm for the White Sox, maybe in the role of “Opener.”

The White Sox finished the 2021 season with a losing record of over 100 games and missed the playoffs. It’s widely believed that they will deal ace pitcher Dylan Cease before the season starts, but they may still make more changes this offseason.
