The Chargers’ NFL Salary Cap was updated following Mike Williams’ release and Khalil Mack’s restructuring.

Shortly before the 2024 NFL season officially began at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Chargers cut wide receiver Mike Williams and renegotiated edge rusher Khalil Mack’s contract.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Williams’ release frees up $20 million in cap space and brings the Chargers into compliance with the salary cap.

However, Williams will be the first of the Chargers’ numerous moves in the upcoming days from a practical sense. In order to guarantee that it would only need to release Williams prior to the start of the new league season, Los Angeles waived defensive back Amechi Uzodinma and offensive lineman Andrew Trainer on Tuesday.

Next in line for a trade, release, or contract modification are two prominent Chargers: wide receiver Keenan Allen and edge rusher Joey Bosa. Mack’s reorganization raises the prospect of Bosa being traded or let go.
