Going into the 2024 season, there might be some doubts about the Patriots’ offensive line, but David Andrews will always be the unit’s leader. The team ensured on Thursday that its O-line anchor will play for at least two more seasons in New England.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Patriots and Andrews have allegedly agreed to a new contract that will last until the 2025 NFL season. The 31-year-old’s contract was supposed to expire following the next season, but it has been extended to $13 million with a guaranteed $8 million over the next two seasons.

In his eight NFL seasons, Andrews has played in New England, where he has captained the Patriots seven times. Andrews has been the team’s starting center since taking over during his rookie season, with the exception of missing the 2019 campaign due to a medical condition. In 2015, as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia, he signed his first contract with the team.

Not only did Andrews play in all 17 games the previous season, but he also took part in every offensive action for the Patriots and only received one penalty. Together with long snapper Joe Cardona, Andrews is the Patriots player with the longest tenure after Matthew Slater’s retirement.

In 2024, the Patriots will largely depend on Andrews’ leadership as Jerod Mayo takes over as head coach from Bill Belichick for the first time. In addition to Andrews, the Patriots extended the contracts of defensive tackle Christian Barmore, safety Kyle Dugger, linebackers Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings, receiver Kendrick Bourne, and offensive lineman Mike Onwenu throughout the offseason.
