The Hawks’ crucial offseason is coming up, and at least one significant move is almost a given. Most predict that Atlanta will trade either Dejounte Murray or Trae Young. With the first overall pick in his pocket, Landry Fields ought to have enough options to rearrange the roster to center it around one of their All-Star point guards.
The Hawks may elect to move both and acquire as many young players and draft capital as they can in order to undertake a full-scale rebuild. An NBA executive who wishes to remain nameless presented one intriguing option. a deal that would effectively replace Stephen Curry by sending Dejounte Murray to the Warriors.
According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, a Western Conference executive stated, “Of all the guys they might be able to trade for, he is probably realistic because he does not make a ton of money. They could add him, put him in Chris Paul’s spot, give up two first-round picks and now you’ve got some defense in there, you’ve got another scorer in there, you have a guy who make some sense.”
The Warriors are more in need of a wing than a point guard, but Murray is a larger player with versatility in his defensive game. He just finished a season in which he shot 36.3% from three-point range and 45.9% from the field to average a career-high 22.5 points per game.
The executive went on, “Nobody is going to replace Steph.” “However, that team must consider all of their options and ask themselves, ‘Who can replace Stephen Curry?'” “Stephen Curry substitute?” You have a point guard for the next five or ten years if you can bring in Murray. That’s the beginning of his replacement.
The Spurs control part of the Hawks’ first-round selections, which is the only thing stopping them from starting over and rebuilding completely. However, depending on the return, there is a chance the Hawks may acquire Dejounte Murray from the Warriors.
