The rising star of the Knicks honors the team’s history at MSG to support their playoff push.
Jalen Brunson, an All-Star for the New York Knicks, recently expressed gratitude to former players for their support of the team during their 2024 NBA playoff home games. According to SNY on X, Brunson discussed the value of honoring those who came before him and the energy that past Knicks like John Starks, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Stephen Marbury had brought to the Madison Square Garden home crowd (h/t Geoff Magliocchetti of Fan Nation’s All Knicks):
According to Brunson, “I just think it’s important to kind of embrace those who have set a foundation.” “Those players were there, no matter what the result was, and they did what they did. It’s fantastic that they returned and continued to be engaged in the game, doing what they were doing on the sidelines. For that, I am grateful to them.
Just by virtue of the people that live in their city, the Knicks have one of the most enthusiastic and fervent fan bases in the NBA. One of the reasons New York has defeated the Indiana Pacers at home in their Eastern Conference Semifinals series and is 5-1 overall in the playoffs so far is because of the great of the past who are still on the sidelines. Even if Brunson didn’t say it out loud, the squad has probably felt greater pressure to perform well because they are playing in front of Knicks luminaries. When they play Indiana in Game 7 on Sunday afternoon, that will be crucial.
