Chris Jones, a standout with the Kansas City Chiefs, supports teammate Harrison Butker following his offensive speech. Following his contentious Benedictine College commencement speech, Harrison Butker has received support from a number of well-known people, including Chiefs colleague Chris Jones.
Chris Jones, a defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, has volunteered to stand up for kicker Harrison Butker in the wake of his divisive statement at Benedictine College. Last Thursday on X, Jones expressed his support for his friend by writing, “I love you @buttkicker7! My friend.” His statement was a direct reaction to a petition that at the time had nearly 30,000 signatures calling for Butker to be fired from the Chiefs. Since then, the petition has garnered 220,000 signatures as of Monday afternoon.
However, Gracie Hunt, the daughter of Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, also expressed her support for Butker, so Jones is not the only one. In response to the three-time Super Bowl champion’s comments, she spoke with Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends.” She said, “Well, I can only speak from my own experience, which is that I grew up with the most amazing mother who was able to stay at home and be with us.” And I recognize that a lot of women are unable to make that choice. However, I know that it had a significant formative influence on my life and the identities of my siblings and me.”
When asked if she could relate to what Butker was talking about, the Chiefs Heiress responded: “For sure, and I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field.”
