An NBA columnist suggested that the Miami Heat should sign Donovan Mitchell this summer from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The following trade proposal was put forth by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey for the Heat and Cavaliers: The Trade: Donovan Mitchell for Tyler Herro, Nikola Jović, Jaime Jaquez Jr., a first-round pick in 2029, and a first-round pick in 2031 Cleveland is now younger, more balanced, and deeper as a result of this transaction. It’s a hazardous swing for the fences for the Heat, to put it mildly,” Bailey observed.
NBA insider Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report claims that Mitchell may be able to force a trade with the Cavaliers during the offseason. The Heat are “high on his list,” according to Mitchell, one of the NBA’s top scorers. Although Pincus stated, “many in NBA circles believe that, barring a title, Mitchell will force his way out of Cleveland this offseason, the Cavaliers are still competitive.” “Maybe Mitchell is the closest NBA guard to Heat great and Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade.” Before the upcoming season, he will turn 28 (seven years younger than Jimmy Butler). He and Bam Adebayo have a close friendship, and according to some NBA sources, Miami is high on his list of places to visit.
Mitchell can sign a four-year extension this summer, although he is under contract for the upcoming season and has a $37 million player option for 2025–2026. It’s expected that the Cavaliers would try to trade Mitchell before he hits free agency in the summer of 2025 if he doesn’t sign an extension this summer. Mitchell can sign for a maximum of five years and $269.9 million with the Cavaliers, who currently own his Bird rights, or four years and $200.1 million with a new team if he becomes a free agent in 2025.
Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in his second season with the Cavaliers. He also shot 46.2% from the field, 36.8% from three, and 86.5% from the free-throw line. With the Utah Jazz and Cavaliers, Mitchell has averaged 24.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists throughout his career. In the previous season, he scored a career-high 71 points against the Chicago Bulls.
