Ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2024, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced the appointment of Dwayne Bravo, a former West Indies international and two-time winner of the T20 World Cup, as bowling consultant for the national squad.

The renowned all-round player is scheduled to arrive at the team’s training camp in advance of the main event. Dwayne John Bravo, 40, was a former West Indies all-rounder who bowled right-arm medium-fast. In 295 international appearances, he amassed 6423 runs and claimed 363 wickets. In addition, he boasts a staggering 573 T20 caps, 227 List A, and 100 FC.

With 625 wickets in T20 cricket, DJ Bravo is presently the format’s top wicket-taker. He is also one of the most successful fast-bowling all-rounders in T20 cricket, having amassed around 7000 runs in the format. Bravo has gained respect and adoration worldwide for his unique blend of comedy and cricket. He has won multiple titles, including the Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup, IPL, and CPL.

Bravo has played internationally and most recently worked as the Chennai Super Kings’ bowling coach during the 2024 Indian Premier League. Afghanistan’s squad has already reached St. Kitts & Nevis, where they will likely start a 10-day training camp in anticipation of the forthcoming T20 World Cup. DJ Bravo and the other coaching staff members will be in charge of it.

Afghanistan’s campaign kicks off on June 4 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana against Uganda in the group stage match. They will be depending on Rashid Khan, their best player, to help them advance in the competition.

In the main event, where they will be put to the test and try to advance to the next round of the competition, the mystery spinner will also serve as the team’s leader. In the group stage, they will also face some of the stronger teams, such New Zealand and the West Indies, who will be a huge challenge for the weaker Afghanistan team.
