When the Michigan football team defends its national championship this autumn, the sidelines will appear very different. In addition to replacing its entire defensive staff, U-M has made changes on that side of the ball following Sherrone Moore’s elevation from offensive coordinator to head coach. Moore spoke with Wolverine Boots on Champions Circle’s podcast, The L.A.B., about his new staff. Regarding Michigan’s new offensive and defensive staffs, he stated the following:

One thing I wanted to be sure of was that I maintained that plan and those. First of all, I believe that our players are excellent players and very skilled at what they do. First, I wanted to make sure they were at ease. Additionally, you mentioned that you intended to maintain the scheme in place and hire someone to oversee it. And why not the one from whom it actually came? That was the origin of bringing Coach Martindale. In addition, he is an amazing human being who is not just a fantastic coach but also a better person.

Then there is the entire support team, including Coach Brian Jean-Mary, Lou Esposito, and Lamar Morgan, who are all outstanding individuals that surround him. Additionally, each of those individuals has called plays and served as a coordinator, which offers you even more perspective. The interesting thing is that they have all experienced it from various perspectives—Wink played in the NFL, and they were all in college. The SEC with Jean-Mary, followed by the MAC and Conference USA.

The fact that there is such a diverse group of men and women there and that they all get along so well strikes me as quite important. And hanging out with that smart group of football coaches is amazing.

Super excited for Coach Campbell, and I know he’s going to do a heck of a job. And all those guys on that side of the ball are phenomenal coaches, phenomenal people, phenomenal recruiters, and it’s going to be really cool to watch those guys really elevate this even more, be better than I was calling plays and doing things. I’m super stoked for them.

My relationship with them is great, and I’m always hard on the O-line because they know that, and they know they don’t have a choice. That’s how it’s going to be. But love them, and want to make sure that we’re in a great place, and I think we are.
