Though Burnley was relegated, Vincent Kompany is on Bayern Munich’s shortlist to take Thomas Tuchel’s place at the Allianz Arena despite actually won just five Premier League games.
Even though he only secured five Premier League victories while Burnley was demoted, Bayern Munich is still interested in signing Vincent Kompany. These seemingly contradicting facts don’t make sense to someone who has closely observed Kompany’s work, though.
Alan Pace, the chairman and majority owner of Burnley, still has the same level of faith in Kompany now as he had when he appointed him two years ago. Even though Burnley, who underwent a £92 million rebuild in the summer, finished the season in the bottom three of the Premier League, Pace never gave firing Kompany any thought. His confidence in Kompany has only increased, and the American is certain that Kompany is the best candidate to earn Burnley’s second promotion the following season.
Other clubs have noted the work Kompany has done in transforming Burnley and he was eyed up by Brighton, even before they sacked Roberto De Zerbi on Saturday. Bayern’s interest trumps Brighton and Pace and his board could face a real fight to hang on to Kompany if the German giants make an official approach.
So far they have not and Kompany is understood to feature on their hitlist to succeed Thomas Tuchel. They see much to like in Kompany and the former Manchester City star is the same leader he was at the Etihad and Anderlecht before he came to Turf Moor.
He is front and centre and is the same inspiring presence he was as a player for City. His fingerprints are all over everything at Burnley. He approves all signings, speaks to incoming players, is an excellent coach and their open style of play is down to him.
Kompany was never going to ditch his principles to survive in the Premier League and Burnley never deviated from their possession-based, passing game. He made mistakes, Kompany knows that, but Pace believes he has built a structure for Burnley to win back their Premier League place and thrive in the top flight.
