Houston has committed a significant sum of money to one of its young, talented wide receivers. According to sources, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero claimed on Tuesday that the Texans and Nico Collins had reached an agreement on a new seventy-five million dollar contract that will last for three years and guarantee $52 million. The maximum value of the contract is $75 million.

News was first reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic. With the new contract, Collins will now rank among the top ten NFL receivers in terms of salary. With an annual salary of around $24.2 million, Collins is ranked seventh overall among wide receivers by Over The Cap, slightly ahead of DK Metcalf of the Seahawks. At $32 million annually, A.J. Brown of Philadelphia is the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

After collecting passes from rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud last season, Collins, 25, had a breakout season in Year 3. He finished with 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, as well as a two-point conversion in 15 games (10 starts). All three of those totals were greater than his total career receiving amounts going into the previous season, in addition to being career highs.

Collins also caught 11 catches (on 17 targets) for 164 yards and a touchdown in the Texans’ two 2023 playoff games. Houston’s offseason has been incredibly hectic after winning its division and making a surprising playoff run in 2023.

In order to enhance a strong offense and make 2024 one of the most anticipated forthcoming seasons in recent franchise history, the Texans also acquired running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
