Aggressive in their pursuit of strengthening their pitching staff and depth, the Orioles signed an experienced starter as a free agency.

As the 2024 season progresses, the Baltimore Orioles have shown to be among the finest baseball clubs. Even though the year is still young, there are plenty of reasons for supporters to be enthusiastic and upbeat.

With their current record of 38-20, the Orioles are in second place in the AL East division standings. The New York Yankees, who have a 41-19 record and are tied for the best record in baseball, are ahead of them.

Baltimore is aware that some upgrades will be needed to solidify their status as World Series contenders while they attempt to catch the Yankees.

Julio Teheran, a free agency starting pitcher, was one of the acquisitions the Orioles made on Tuesday. MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that Baltimore and Teheran have reached an agreement.

The agreement was also verified by Orioles reporter Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. According to his reports, Teheran’s contract with Baltimore is only a minor league agreement.

During the 2024 season, Teheran made just one appearance for the New York Mets. In just 2.2 innings pitched, he allowed four earned runs.

But Teheran was a much bigger part of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023. With a 3-5 record and a 4.40 ERA, he started 11 games and tossed 71.2 innings.

Despite his lackluster recent play, he is the kind of player who can support a rival squad. The Orioles are getting a low-risk, high-reward kind of setup and aren’t spending a fortune to make this move.

Whether Teheran can make it to the major leagues with Baltimore will be exciting to see.

If he can go back in time and perform at his 2023 level, he will provide the Orioles with some nice impact this season.
