The Indianapolis Colts were busy on Monday making sure their own players stayed in the fold.
They extended linebacker Zaire Franklin’s contract, which had one year left, and re-signed defensive end Tyquan Lewis, wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., and defensive tackle Grover Stewart to multi-year contracts.
On Monday, the NFL opened its window for teams to begin negotiating with new, outside free-agent players.
While the organization will continue to concentrate on bringing back their own players, the next few days should start to show the Colts expressing more interest in outside prospects. Here is a current look at the team’s free-agent scenario.
Re-signing Pittman was priority number one; otherwise, they would’ve needed any and all help in the passing game.
However, their primary need on offense now is someone who can stretch the field vertically, whether that be a receiver who can win in a variety of ways beyond the sticks or a tight end who makes life difficult for linebackers and safeties down the seams or outside the hashes.
The Colts need someone besides Sam Ehlinger to cover for Anthony Richardson, especially considering Richardson missed the most of his first season due to a shoulder injury. Minshew is departing for Las Vegas.
If Richardson were to miss any more time, there are still enough of experienced veterans like Ryan Tannehill, Marcus Mariota, Drew Lock, Carson Wentz, Tyler Huntley, Joe Flacco, and Josh Dobbs who could help keep the ship afloat.
