Everton Fc have set their sights set on Manchester United forward, despite spending £52 million on Leny Yoro from Lille and ongoing talks with Bayern Munich over Matthijs de Ligt.
Reports indicate that there are no plans to permit Jarrad Branthwaite’s exit from Goodison Park this summer.
Even after securing Lille defender Leny Yoro despite competition from Real Madrid, Liverpool, and PSG, Manchester United continues to pursue the England international Branthwaite.
With centre-backs Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala both leaving Old Trafford this summer, and with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof also available for transfer, Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen the defensive lineup. Following the acquisition of French teenager Yoro, the United manager is also considering a move for Matthijs de Ligt, currently at Bayern Munich and a former player of his from Ajax.
Manchester United have already had two unsuccessful attempts to sign Branthwaite, who has played 54 games for Everton and was a pivotal part of Sean Dyche’s team last season.
The Red Devils had been contemplating a third bid for Branthwaite, but according to The Athletic, Everton have made it clear that the player will not be transferred this summer.
While Everton might be open to reconsidering their position, it would require a significantly better offer, as the Goodison Park hierarchy values the 22-year-old at approximately £75 million.
Last month, Branthwaite was named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for Euro 2024 but was eventually excluded from the final 26-man squad.
In other developments, Manchester United confirmed on Saturday that their new signing Yoro will be wearing the No. 15 shirt following his move from Ligue 1.
He could potentially make his first appearance for the club on Saturday during a pre-season friendly against Scottish giants Rangers at Murrayfield.
