The Los Angeles Lakers are making another change to their roster this offseason, as point guard Spencer Dinwiddie is set to join the Dallas Mavericks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Dinwiddie’s move to the Mavericks is part of a series of strategic acquisitions for Dallas, which also includes Klay Thompson, as the team aims to build on their recent NBA Finals appearance.

Charania announced on July 22, 2024, via X, “Free agent guard Spencer Dinwiddie has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell @TheAthletic@Stadium. Dinwiddie returns to the Mavs as a perfect backcourt addition, having averaged 17.4 points over two stints with Dallas and playing a key role in their 2022 Western Conference Finals run.”

Previously, Dinwiddie was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors at the NBA trade deadline in February. After being waived by the Raptors, Dinwiddie was signed by the Lakers before making this new move to the Mavericks.

Certainly! Charania explained during a July 22 interview on “The Pat McAfee Show,” “He has the ability to step in as a starter or come off the bench as a sixth man. He’s versatile in his roles, capable of playing strong defense and making shots.

Acquiring Spencer Dinwiddie at this point in the summer is a significant move for the Mavericks. He has already demonstrated that he complements Luka Doncic well,” Charania added.

The Lakers have been interested in all of these players, including considering the possibility of bringing Spencer Dinwiddie back. However, they’re currently facing a bit of a roster crunch with 15 guaranteed spots.
