Davante Adams Discusses the QB1 Competition Between Minshew and O’Connell for the Raiders…

Davante Adams, a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, hasn’t been informed about who will be the starting quarterback for Week 1 yet. However, he mentioned that he’s working on building chemistry with both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew.

Adams noted, “There are advantages and disadvantages to not having a set timeline, but ultimately, we’re getting plenty of practice with both quarterbacks and maintaining good communication. We have open discussions, and I’m constantly observing and learning how each quarterback releases the ball, whether it’s Gardner or Aidan,” according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.

“I’m staying alert to everything,” Adams said.

He also drew a comparison between his current relationships with O’Connell and Minshew and his past connection with Aaron Rodgers, who was his quarterback for eight seasons.

Adams explained, “That’s similar to how it was with Rodgers. It wasn’t just about the practice reps; it was also about the communication, the film sessions we had together, and the timing and various factors that were just as crucial as on-field reps.”

Despite some frustrations, Adams had a strong 2023 season, recording 1,144 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He aims to return to All-Pro form this season, whether playing with O’Connell or Minshew.

O’Connell had a notable rookie year with 2,218 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games. However, with Minshew joining the team, his starting role isn’t guaranteed, although he still has the chance to secure it before September.

The Raiders acquired Minshew in free agency after he had a standout season with the Indianapolis Colts, where he threw for 3,305 passing yards and 15 touchdowns.
