Everton Land Manchester City Reject In A Cut Price Deal To Replace Onana…
Everton are said to be nearing a loan deal for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
With Amadou Onana having recently transferred to Aston Villa for an estimated £50 million, the Toffees are aiming to replace him and see the 28-year-old Phillips as a viable candidate to fill the gap.
The 28-year-old has had a challenging two years at Manchester City. Although he participated in the Sky Blues’ pre-season tour, his inability to challenge Ballon d’Or contender Rodri has led the six-time Premier League champions to consider offers for him.
Everton favourites to agree Kalvin Phillips deal
Sean Dyche’s team, aiming to outmaneuver Aston Villa for City’s number four, is unlikely to afford the £45 million midfielder outright. According to Football Insider, they are therefore exploring the option of a loan deal.
The Merseyside club has made four summer signings so far, but none match the caliber of Phillips.
Phillips, who has four years remaining on his contract at the Etihad, is eager to prove himself at a club consistently competing in England’s top flight. He understands that the 2024-25 season could be the most pivotal of his career.
In his two years at Manchester City, the Leeds-born midfielder has made just five Premier League starts, been capped 31 times by England, but did not make the squad for this summer’s EUROs. His sole goal for Manchester City came in a 3-2 victory over Crvena Zvezda in the group stage of last season’s Champions League.
