Philadelphia Phillies Manager Rob Thomson  discusses All Trade And Drafts In The Deadline Top 30 Prospect Shake-Up…

Pitcher George Klassen was quickly becoming one of the most promising prospects in the Philadelphia Phillies’ system, as noted by Baseball America. However, it will be the Los Angeles Angels who will benefit from his potential, thanks to a trade that also included another pitcher, Samuel Aldegheri. This trade was part of a broader shake-up in the Phillies’ Top 30 prospects list, according to the publication.

The updated Top 30 rankings incorporate all trades made after the deadline and draft picks considered strong enough to be added to the list.

Following the MLB Draft, Baseball America revised its Top 100 rankings, placing four Phillies players within the Top 60: pitcher Andrew Painter (No. 20), outfielder Justin Crawford (No. 37), shortstop Aidan Miller (No. 43), and shortstop Starlyn Caba (No. 56).

Painter is sidelined for the season due to Tommy John surgery he had last year. Both Crawford and Miller participated in the MLB Futures Game last month, with Crawford recently advancing to Double-A Reading. Caba, at just 18, was among the Phillies’ top international signings in 2023 and has recently been promoted to Class-A Clearwater.

The Phillies acquired two new Top 30 prospects from the trade involving Gregory Soto with the Baltimore Orioles: pitcher Seth Johnson (No. 7) and pitcher Moises Chace (No. 15).

Pitcher Jean Cabrera, previously considered one of the Phillies’ fastest-rising prospects, was the highest new entrant at No. 8. Other new additions to the Top 30 include pitcher Michael Mercado (No. 14), second baseman Aroon Escobar (No. 22), and pitcher Enrique Segura (No. 24).

Four Phillies draft picks made their way into the Top 30, with a notable second-round pick surpassing a first-round pick on the list. Outfielder Griffin Burkholder, the Phillies’ second-round pick, is ranked No. 6, while first-round pick outfielder Dante Nori is ranked No. 10.

Third-round pick outfielder John Spikerman and fourth-round pick shortstop Carson DeMartini are ranked No. 20 and No. 21, respectively.
