What Leeds United are now requesting from Georginio Rutter privately following Brighton’s £40m bid…

Leeds United have been deeply shaken by the recent update regarding Georginio Rutter.

Following a disheartening 3-0 loss at home to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, it was reported that Brighton & Hove Albion had triggered Rutter’s £40 million release clause.

Brighton reportedly had bids of £29 million and £35 million rejected before ultimately agreeing to Rutter’s £40 million release clause prior to Leeds’ match against Boro.

With Leeds already missing key players like Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Glen Kamara, losing Rutter would be particularly hard to accept.

Leeds had been targeting three new signings in the last two weeks of the transfer window, but with Rutter’s departure, they would need to make it four. Finding suitable replacements for all these players seems challenging.

What Leeds are asking Rutter behind-closed doors.

Reports suggest that Rutter knew about Brighton’s offer before Leeds’ match last night but chose to remain available for the game, coming on as a substitute in the second half.

Despite not having previously pushed for a transfer, Rutter now faces a major decision on whether to remain with Leeds or move back to the Premier League.

Leeds have already generated nearly £100 million from player sales this summer (including Luis Sinisterra), making Rutter’s potential departure a financial strain they could do without.

As reported by Leeds Live, the club is reportedly doing everything they can to persuade Rutter to stay, but the final decision rests with him.

The report also suggests that a new contract could be offered if Rutter chooses to remain, despite his current deal having four years left.

Rutter will need to make a swift decision, as if he leaves, Leeds will face a significant challenge in finding a replacement on such short notice.

Rutter exit would be worst of the lot.

Losing both Summerville and Gray in the same transfer window is already a significant setback, but losing Rutter would be the biggest blow of all.

Rutter went from being an underperformer to a fan favorite last season, building a strong connection with supporters through both his on-field performances and off-field personality.

While Rutter’s ball control can sometimes be frustrating, there is no one Leeds could realistically bring in who could match what he offers.

His skill in driving past defenders and creating opportunities makes him one of the top players in the league. An attack missing him or Summerville would likely diminish Leeds’ chances of finishing in the top two.
