STEVE HARRIS on the BLAZE BAYLEY Era with IRON MAIDEN: “I Take Great Pride in Our Time with Blaze; He Was Key to Keeping the Band Alive” (Audio)
Steve Harris, bassist and founder of Iron Maiden, recently appeared on the Scars And Guitars podcast to discuss the upcoming Australian shows with British Lion and Iron Maiden. In the second part of the interview, Harris talks about his experiences touring Australia and the reception of British Lion. He provides insights into Iron Maiden’s current tour, the process of creating setlists, and potential song selections. Harris also reflects on the band’s musical evolution and their enduring collaboration with Bruce Dickinson, while touching on personal interests like West Ham United and the challenges he has faced in the music industry.
Harris discusses the biggest challenge of his career:
“I think the hardest period was when Bruce (Dickinson) left. We had to work hard to keep the band together and find a new singer with a different style. Blaze (Bayley) brought a unique approach, and although some auditioned who sounded like Bruce, I didn’t want us to become a tribute band. Instead, we chose to evolve, and I’m really proud of our time with Blaze; he played a crucial role in keeping the band moving forward.”
