Florida Gators DJ Lagway and Eugene Wilson Identified as Top Transfer Portal Prospects.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of the Florida Gators football program, it’s possible that some of the team’s top players may enter the transfer portal.

According to NCAA rules, if a head coach is fired during the season, players have 30 days to enter the portal and reach out to other coaches.

This week, Rivals Transfer Portal Analyst Adam Friedman highlighted DJ Lagway and DJ Lagway III as two players who might leave the program if head coach Billy Napier is not retained.

**DJ Lagway**

Lagway, a consensus five-star recruit and the 2023 National Gatorade Player of the Year, is Florida’s highest-ranked quarterback recruit in over a decade. Since committing nearly two years ago, he has shown confidence in Napier’s leadership despite the program’s struggles.

In his first career start, Lagway led all FBS quarterbacks in passing yards, setting a UF true freshman record with 456 yards. In his latest game against Mississippi State, he went a perfect 7-for-7 for 76 passing yards and 22 rushing yards.

“Lagway could easily be considered the top transfer prospect if he chooses to enter the portal,” Friedman stated.

While Lagway would likely draw significant attention and offers in the transfer portal, he also has a strong chance of becoming the team’s starting quarterback for years to come if he stays. His commitment came during a challenging period for the program, indicating his willingness to endure some early setbacks. However, if Napier is not retained, Lagway may face a difficult choice.

**Eugene Wilson III**

Although he has missed the last two games, Wilson remains the Gators’ second-leading receiver with 13 catches for 191 yards. Last season, he was a Freshman All-SEC selection and a FWAA Freshman All-American, leading the team in receiving touchdowns (6) and ranking second in catches (61) and receiving yards (538). The four-star recruit from Tampa has been one of the few bright spots on a lackluster offense.

With Ricky Pearsall gone to the NFL, Wilson seemed poised to become one of the nation’s top receivers. In his second game this season, he set a career high with 141 receiving yards and scored a touchdown.

Wilson recently underwent a minor knee procedure and has missed two games, but Friedman believes this won’t diminish his appeal in the transfer portal.

“He’ll still be one of the most sought-after receivers if he decides to move,” Friedman noted.

If Wilson returns effectively from his injury, his stock is likely to rise further. As a dynamic sophomore, he has the potential to be a key asset for any college offense, giving him numerous options if he chooses to enter the transfer portal.
