The two eastern teams who have interest in trade for young warriors star coming off breakout season, as Steve Ker laid bare the reasons why the Warriors can’t offer him a new contract
Two teams are reportedly interested in Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga after he was unable to finalize a contract extension with the team.
On a livestream Friday, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer mentioned that the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets could be looking to acquire Kuminga. He noted that the 76ers might have more immediate interest, although they aren’t actively pursuing a deal at this time.
“The Sixers have definitely communicated to the league and behind the scenes that they are open to spending and adding another piece right now,” Fischer stated. “They are prepared to use their draft capital.”
Fischer also noted that there have been suggestions the Nets might consider making a significant offer sheet to Kuminga next offseason.
The key question is how the Warriors view Kuminga’s future. Although a contract wasn’t finalized, he remains an important part of the team, and it’s unlikely they would want to trade him if they believe they still have a chance to contend. Additionally, he will be a restricted free agent next offseason, allowing the Warriors to match any offer sheet he receives.
Kuminga is coming off a breakout season, averaging 16.1 points per game in 74 appearances.
