Detroit Lions Make Wide Receiver Move Amid Jameson Williams’ Return
The Detroit Lions have gained significant attention as a potential Super Bowl contender after their impressive 7-1 start in the NFC North, including a recent road victory over Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. On Wednesday, Lions star wide receiver Jameson Williams returned to practice after serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that the former Alabama standout will be available for this Sunday’s game against CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans. “He’s locked in and ready to go,” Campbell said. However, one Lions player who is unlikely to be with the team when they take the field at NRG Stadium in Houston is wide receiver Isaiah Williams. According to a report from Detroit’s Woodward Sports, Isaiah Williams is being released to make room for Jameson Williams’ return.
The news was officially confirmed by the Detroit Lions’ account on X, though no corresponding move was announced. Isaiah Williams, a 5-foot-10, 186-pound rookie from Bret Bielema’s Illinois Fighting Illini program, had a strong performance during the preseason.
Isaiah Williams led the Lions in receiving during the preseason, totaling 11 catches for 123 yards. In addition, he handled six punt returns for 71 yards across three preseason games. During the regular season, he has caught two passes for six yards and recently returned a punt for 36 yards against the Tennessee Titans at Ford Field.
