DONE DEAL: Dodgers Land Chicago White Sox Southpaw Starting Pitcher Garrett Crochet In A $97.9Million blockbuster 3years Trade Deal
The Dodgers’ front office is staying busy this offseason, evaluating the available players for the upcoming season. One player they have shown interest in is Garrett Crochet, a left-handed starting pitcher from the Chicago White Sox. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Los Angeles is considered a strong contender to land the 25-year-old.
Bowden, who has spoken with multiple front office executives, stated that Crochet is likely to be traded by the end of the year. If the Dodgers are unable to secure him, Bowden mentioned that the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles are also potential suitors. All three teams have young position players they could offer the Chicago White Sox in a trade for Crochet.
The Dodgers showed interest in Crochet at the trade deadline, but the White Sox requested Los Angeles’ top prospect, catcher Dalton Rushing, in return. The Dodgers declined, as Rushing had just earned his first promotion to Triple-A in August. Instead, Los Angeles offered rookie starting pitcher River Ryan, who posted a solid 1.33 ERA across four starts. However, that wasn’t enough to convince Chicago to trade Crochet.
With four seasons already under his belt with the White Sox, Crochet still has two years of team control remaining. Earning just an $800,000 salary this season, he represents an affordable option for the Dodgers’ rotation.
This season marked a career best for Crochet. For the first time in his MLB career, the Ocean Springs, Mississippi native was named an American League All-Star. He set a personal high with 209 strikeouts, ranking fourth in the AL. Additionally, he logged 146 innings pitched, the most he’s thrown since 2021, when he totaled 54.1 innings.
