SHOCKING: How Cardinals’ TE Trey McBride Made NFL History
Arizona Cardinals TE Trey McBride did something nobody in NFL history has accomplished.
Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride made NFL history by becoming the first player to record back-to-back games with 12 receptions. This achievement occurred during the team’s Week 13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, following his 12-catch, 133-yard performance against the Seattle Seahawks. McBride then added another 12 receptions for 96 yards in the game against Minnesota.
Arizona lost both games.
“These are the two highest single-game reception totals by a tight end in Cardinals history and represent the first time in NFL history that a tight end has recorded at least 12 catches in back-to-back games,” according to NFL Research.
In his first year as a full-time starter, McBride has made the most of a strong sophomore season in 2023, accumulating 781 receiving yards on 73 receptions in 2024, ranking second and third among tight ends, respectively.
McBride has scored two touchdowns this season—one rushing and one on a fumble recovery—but has yet to record a receiving touchdown.
He has become a key target for quarterback Kyler Murray and a versatile weapon for the Cardinals.
“I think he’s the best. I’m not trying to get ahead of myself or put too much pressure on him, but I know the work that he’s put in,” McBride said.
“I know what kind of athlete he is and what kind of player he is. It’s great to see that people are recognizing what he does every week when the ball is in his hands,” McBride said.
After the loss to Minnesota, the Cardinals’ offense is looking to bounce back from a tough performance in the red zone, converting just 1 of 6 opportunities inside the 20-yard line.
“It’s a lot of time with the offense we have and Kyler back there,” McBride commented after the game.
“I have full faith in our offense. We’re trying to get the ball down there; obviously, we want a touchdown, but a field goal will do. Bad first play, bad second play put us behind the sticks. Third and long, and then we’ve got to go for it on fourth. Kyler’s trying to make a miraculous play, but they made a good play too, so it’s frustrating,” McBride said.
The Cardinals will look to turn things around, though they can count on a reliable player in the middle to help lead the way.
