Celtics Key Player Accepted Signing An Extended Contract.
The Boston Celtics defeated the San Antonio Spurs 134-101 on Sunday night to increase their winning streak to six games. Jayson Tatum scored 25 points, while Jaylen Brown added 24.
In his comeback game after missing one due to a calf injury, Kristaps Porzingis contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, while Derrick White scored 17 points against his old team.
Boston coach Joe Mazzulla stated, “We got stops.” “We did a great job, in my opinion, of both guarding the paint and moving out to contest, which allowed us to get out on transition. We performed a fantastic job, in my opinion, of identifying the mismatch early on and working as a team to resolve it during our secondary move.
For San Antonio, Devin Vassell scored 22 points, and Victor Wembanyama added 21 points along with seven rebounds. Of the eight, the Spurs have lost seven.
Coach Gregg Popovich of San Antonio stated, “They are a championship-caliber team; that’s what they are out there for, that’s their goal, and they proved it again.” Joe works really well with them. They certainly possess all-star talent; they also possess grit. They have the execution down and are constantly improving. That presents a significant challenge for our group right now.
The Eastern Conference’s top team and the Western Conference’s bottom club met, and the outcome was predictable.
Wembanyama remarked, “I feel like they have something extra this year compared to previous years.” Naturally, playing against them is challenging, but it’s also a nice challenge. However, I believe we gained knowledge.
Boston rested its starters for the majority of the fourth quarter while leading by as much as 37 points.
For the sixth time this season, San Antonio never took the lead when trailing by 35 points or more in a game.
Keldon Johnson was sidelined by lower back spasms, and Zach Collins missed the game due to a sprained ankle. The offense of the Spurs suffered in their absence.
Vassell and Wembanyama scored the opening 17 points for San Antonio. In the first quarter, the two shot a combined 5 for 20 from the field. The Spurs’ remaining players were 2 for 14. San Antonio’s 3-point percentage was 12 for 44 in the end.
For Spurs supporters, Wembanyama delivered a handful of the few highlights. The 7-foot-3 rookie narrowed Boston’s lead to 38-29 in the second quarter with a 3-pointer after reversing a slam off an alley-oop feed from Tre Jones.
In an attempt to outshoot White with one hand, Wembanyama also dribbled from the free throw line while holding the ball over his head.
