Aston Villa’s next three games will be missed by Ollie Watkins, who was banned by the FA for violent behaviour.

Late in the first half of Villa’s 2-2 tie with Bristol City at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday, the 32-year-old England international looked to strike Bristol City captain Megan Connolly in the face with her arm.

He chose not to contest the accusation, thus he will now miss the Women’s Super League games against Tottenham and Liverpool as well as tonight’s Conti Cup match against Brighton.

In a statement, the FA stated: “After Aston Villa Women’s WSL encounter against Bristol City on February 3, Ollie Watkins was suspended for three matches.

“The FA claimed that her actions in the 39th minute, which were captured on camera, constituted violent behaviour even though the match officials were not present to witness it.

“Ollie Watkins subsequently admitted this charge and accepted the automatic penalty for violent conduct.”

Ollie, who scored 22 goals in the previous season to win the WSL Golden Boot, has scored six goals in the league and eight more in other competitions.

With just 13 points from 13 games played, Carla Ward’s Villans are currently seventh in the standings after a dismal start to the season.

They lost three points for using an ineligible player in the Conti Cup group round, and Laura Blindkilde signed a contract last week to join WSL champion Manchester City.

However, Ward, forty, is certain that better days are ahead between now and the season’s conclusion.

He stated prior to the Robins game: “I have a set of players who I’m prepared to work with for the remainder of the season. We need to stand behind each other because they’re prepared to fight.
